Nipek was established in 2013 in Singapore by two Japanese lighting designers, Shigeki and Natsuko, who were mentored by the renowned pioneer of modern architectural lighting design, Kaoru Mende. 

The company's journey began with a commission from OCBC Bank to conceptualize and produce a series of media façade contents for the iconic I.M. Pei-designed OCBC Centre in Singapore. This project showcased Nipek's successful interpretation of architectural lighting concepts into striking façade lighting displays. This success led the studio to further explore dynamic and interactive lighting through the incorporation of digital technologies in later projects.
 
In 2013, the studio was tapped by Pontiac Land Group for the renovation of The Ritz-Carlton Millenia, collaborating with the renowned interior designer Tony Chi. This collaboration cemented Nipek's reputation as a specialist in hospitality lighting design, leading to a number of top-class projects in the hospitality industry.

A defining moment for the studio came in 2015, when they were selected by Asia's leading property developer, CapitaLand, as the lighting designer for the redevelopment of Funan, a new lifestyle mixed-use development in Singapore. This opportunity allowed Nipek to bring their innovative concepts of digitalized and interactive lighting to life, attracting the attention of other leading real estate companies in Asia and propelling the studio to new levels of success.

In 2020, the founders Shigeki and Natsuko seized the opportunity presented by the widespread adoption of remote work due to COVID-19 to establish a presence in Japan. They opened a new office in Sapporo, Japan, strengthening their ability to meet the demands of the local market. In May 2022, the office was relocated from Sapporo to Higashikawa and now operates from the satellite office of Kengo Kuma & Associates in Hokkaido, providing global coverage from the heart of Hokkaido.
